Small Soldiers [20]

I can see the studio pitch now....It is a cross between Chucky and Toy Story. People versus come-to-life action figures. Comedy and pathos. Actually I am not down on this movie. It looks and sounds very interesting. The rub is that instead of stop/robotic animation of 50 foot creatures, we have the animation of 12 inch action figures. The premise is a bit stretched with a Defense Industry Company trying to figure out how to commercialize a product they have. It ends up in Toy Soldier action figures which can "play" with their owners. Of course with a 12 inch Artificially Intelligent mini-war machine - all hell is going to break loose. Joe Dante and Dreamworks could have the Gremlins of the 90's. Older kids will love it. Grab a kid and go. [AB]
