    Vampires - aka Vampire$ [17] -1998-

    Expectation Reviews
    John Carpenter is back. Like a zombie from 'Night of the Living Dead' he just does not go down for long. The 80's were good to John with The Fog, Escape from New York, The Thing, and StarMan. But in the 90's he has had trouble, who remembers Village of the Damned or enjoyed Escape from LA? John needs a hit for his Hollywood money train to continue. Too many bad films in a row and you are out on your ear.

    The premise is that a group of vampires are looking for an artifact that will allow them to control earth and bring about its descruction. And the posse of people brought in have to round them up and get the artifact before they do. The buzz is that this movie is low on special effects, so it better have a great plot to back it up. The audiences are spoiled after special effect busters like ID4, Starship Troopers and the incoming Lost in Space.

    The last great Vampire Film was Interview with a Vampire. Not sure where John is going to take the genre, but he does direct and write well. Should be worth the matinee price. Check it out. {AB}
