    Day After Tomorrow, The [11]

    Expectation Reviews
    This is a big time effects movie brought to use for Memorial Day weekend 2004. The effects revolve around the freakish weather generated by instant global changes. The instant global change is brought about by the need to emphasize the dangers of Western Civilization and the effects of industrialization on the weather. The instant change is also convenient in that no futuristic sets needed to be constructed. The current world could be destroyed.

    Roland Emmerich brings us his disdain and contempt for our current world and seeks to destroy it in front of us all. (*yawn*).

    Beside the psuedo-scientific notion global warming has an instant effect (like Godzilla, to drop a movie monster name), we have already seen the world destroyed in any number of ways. The whole Godzilla genre is messages about the effects of radiation and pollution as "The monster that will get us".

    Movie posters that depict the Statue of Liberty buried, submerged, iced over or surrounded by damn dirty apes have gone out with button shoes and beehive hairdos in my opinion.

    This is a rental, for the effects, not a way to throw away nine dollars on Memorial Day. {BB}
