    Pink Panther, The [9] -2005-

    Expectation Reviews
    The Blake Edwards/Peter Sellers comedy series ran out of gas with the Trail Of The Pink Panther (1982). That movie was put together with clips of the already dead Peter Sellers. Curse of The Pink Panther and Son Of The Pink Panther were even stinkier. I don't know why they want to revive it. The original Pink Panther Movie, and its Sequel A Shot in The Dark are two comedy classics. They should have left it at that. The three 70's followups had their moments, but were tiresome retreads.

    This is the IMDB plot summary: A prequel to the 1964 Peter Sellers original film, where the detective must solve the murder of a famous soccer coach and find out who stole the infamous Pink Panther diamond

    I watched the trailer, and it appears to be set in the current time (2005). Steve Martin makes a passible Saturday Night Live impression of Inspector Jacques Clouseau, but that is about it. Leslie Nielson's Frank Drebin character from Police Squad is a much better approximation of the character. In that series, Nielson is a serious actor whose lines and actions are inherently funny. The trailer scenes saved this movie from being rated much lower.

    Rent the originals and have yourself a marathon. Maybe someday, someone will string together all of the Burt Kwouk Kato attack scenes. Those make me laugh so hard that I gasp for air. {BB}

    Holy smokes, this movie has been held back for more than a year! If all the funny moments typically appear in the trailer, then we are in for real trouble. Why didn't Kevin Kline play Clouseau? He looks like a more obvious fit than Steve Martin.
