National Treasure: Book of Secrets [7]
Although it appears in the title, according to sources, the actual "Book of Secrets" plays a very small role in the movie. You might think that a book of secrets about all the conspiracies that have every occurred might get a little more screen time and plot expansion. Nevertheless, again as with National Treasure, there is a hidden cache of treasure somewhere in the United States. Jeff Strickler, the movie critic for the Minneapolis Star Tribune mentioned in 2004 that the sequel would involve a cache of drugs up George Washingtons nose on Mount Rushmore. Apparently the writers took that idea and ran with it. Due to the magic of google, that previous expectation review of National Treasure, is the number two expectation review on the Group29.com site. It is the most popular link for National Treasure fanfiction.
According to Riley Poole (Justin Bartha), a friend of protagonist Ben Gates (Nicholas Cage), the Book of Secrets contains documents collected by Presidents for Presidents eyes only, covering such controversial subjects as the JFK assassination, Watergate, and Area 51.
To find the location of the book, Ben forces the Presidents birthday party to be held at Mount Vernon by booking all other approved locations. (How did he manage to book a competing engagment at the White House?) When Ben sneaks into the party, he convinces the President to follow him into a secret tunnel under the house where he confronts him about the Book of secrets. The President tells him the location of the book in the Library of Congress and tells him to read page 47 as well as the information he needs. In the book, Ben finds a picture of the plank from the presidents desk in the White House and a note saying that President Coolidge found the legendary city of Cibola in 1924 and had the Mount Rushmore monument built to hide the treasure.
The biggest caches of treasure are the gold repositories in the Federal Reserve banks and Fort Knox. In fact, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York is the largest and at 33 Liberty St., is only 300 yards, or two blocks as the crow flies, from Trinity Church at 74 Trinity Place. There is a large amount of Black Hills gold, near Mount Rushmore, especially in the Homestake mine, which would have been the real source of Treasure.
This could be fun to watch when there is a spare hour or two between naps. I ripped the prequel, National Treasure in another expectation review, but enough time has passed to give this move the extra point to go to 7. {BB}
