    Question
    ·  What is significant about the number 29?
    ·  The Twenty-Nine hand in cribbage
    ·  The number 29 in Mathematics

    Answer
    ·  What is significant about the number 29?

Twenty-Nine has the virtue of being a prime number, and makes for an interesting grading scale. There is no way to halfway like something if you have no corresponding halfway point on the scale. Either you like it or not. Maybe the scale should have been 0 and 1 (The old Siskel and Ebert "thumb" system). But even their scale is 0 to 2 if you add both thumbs. The editor was Twenty Nine years old in 1996 when this site was launched. Leap year occurs on the 29th day of February. The stock market crashed in '29 marking the beginning of the great depression.

    ·  The Twenty-Nine hand in cribbage

Twenty-Nine points is the best possible hand in the game of cribbage. In 12,994,800 possible 4 card hands, there are only 4 ways to score 29 points. for .0000308% probability in any given hand. To get 29, you must have three 5's and a Jack in your hand. The starter card turned up must then be the fourth 5 and it must be the same suit as the Jack. (If the Jack does not match, it is the slighty more common 28 hand.)
    The hand is properly counted:
    "Fifteen-two
    Fifteen-four
    Fifteen-six
    Fifteen-eight
    Fifteen-ten
    Fifteen-twelve
    Fifteen-fourteen
    Fifteen-sixteen!
Plus Four of a kind for twelve is Twenty-eight!!
    and his nobs is Twenty-nine!!!"
Cribbage Rules can be found at the PAGAT.COM site, The premiere card game rules web site since 1995.
