The idmxl8.xla file is a template file provided by the FileNet IDM desktop software (Versions 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, and 3.3). You most likely will receive this error if your FileNet client installation has been modified.

This happened on one of our company user's PCs. When you do a save or save as on an Excel file, a message box pops up that idmxl8.xla cannot be found. Also, when she checked out, no dialog box would pop up asking her where she wanted to save. Also, the keep local copy checkbox was overridden.

This will reset the save/saveAs problem.

From the menu, select Tools --> customize (just to see the dialog)

Click on the Toolbars tab, Highlight the Standard Toolbars, then click the Reset.

If it doesn't work, you may want to delete your *.xlb file (use windows|find to locate it--search hidden folders for hidden files, too.)
    (C:\Documents and Settings\bbutzer\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\Excel.xlb)
    (C:\userdata\profile\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\Excel.xlb)
