This article is intended to debunk an internet email humor rumor.

    * The first Ford Excursion was actually designed and built in
1951. It was never marketed because the then-current braking
technology required a drum 3 feet wide on each wheel.

In the book Ford Trucks Since 1905 from Crestline publishers, the author talks about many Marmon Herrington conversions.

There is an Article about the 1946 Marmon-Herrington Ford Wagon in the Hemmings motor news.

Marmon-Herrington is still in the business of doing all wheel drive conversions of heavy duty trucks. I would like to try one out, but they are probably quite businesslike.

The owner of the specialtycontrolpanels.com page has many pictured of old Ford trucks, including the Chuck's Trucks Marmon Herrington Conversions.

This is a picture of two 1950 Ford Marmon-Herrington 4x4 truck conversions. The one on the right is the first Ford SUV, the "Ranger", but I couldn't see the 3' brake drum. (hee hee)

Chuck's Trucks is in the business of Ford restoration and has a couple of Marmon-Herrington Ford trucks.
