I ran into this problem today. I had a jpeg logo for a web site that someone wanted use for printing business cards. EPS stands for Encapsulated Postscript.

Here is how to do it on your Windows XP/2000/2003 system.

First, get the Windows version of the Python programming language. The current version is 2.4.

    http://www.python.org

Just save the installer file python-2.4.1.msi to your local machine. Then run it. I installed mine to c:\unix\python24\

Next, you will need the Python Imaging Library. The latest free version is 1.1.5 for Python 2.4. You will need to install Python first. It will find the directory to place the library then.

The final program you will need is IMGTOPS. This is a free application from Sourceforge.net.
    http://imgtops.sourceforge.net/

This file comes is a tar.gz format. You will need winzip or the unix "tar" and "gzip" utilities to extract the files. I extracted mine to C:\unix\imgtops-1.0\ .

Now you can run the application

    Code:
    C:\Documents and Settings\bb\My Documents\My Pictures>
    c:\unix\python24\python "C:\unix\imgtops-1.0\imgtops" MyBMPLogo.bmp > MyBMPLogo.eps

You can use Ghostscript GSview to see the EPS file if you want to view it.

Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) is a standard format for importing and exporting PostScript language files in all environments. It is usually a single page PostScript language program that describes an illustration. The purpose of the EPS file is to be included as an illustration in other PostScript language page descriptions. The EPS file can contain any combination of text, graphics, and images. An EPS file is the same as any other PostScript language page description, with some restrictions.

The postscript FAQ is available at http://www.postscript.org/
