    If you have separate application pools for your individual web applications, (and you should!), you will note that recycling the application pool does not create an entry in the Windows event log.

    See this article: Logging Worker Process Recycling Events in IIS 6.0 (IIS 6.0)

    for information on how to add the metabase information to log cycling events.

    It is under
    IIS 6.0 Documentation
    -> IIS 6.0 Operations Guide
    --> Server Administration Guide
    ---> Configuring Servers for Applications
    ----> Worker Process Isolation Mode in IIS 6.0
    -----> Recycling Worker Processes with IIS 6.0

    To enable logging of worker process recycling
    1. From the Start menu, click Run.

    2. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.

    3. At the command prompt, type the following and then press ENTER: cd %systemroot%\inetpub\adminscripts

    4. At the command prompt, type the following and then press ENTER: csript adsutil.vbs set w3svc/AppPools/AppPoolName/EventName true

    Replace AppPoolName with the name of the application pool and EventName with the name of the event for which you want to enable logging. For example, the following command enables logging of memory-based recycling events for the default AppPool: csript adsutil.vbs set w3svc/AppPools/DefaultAppPool /AppPoolRecyleMemory true
