OK, having been there it still amazes me. Every block is a game of chicken played in slow polite motion. Horn honking is (and I quote) a gentle reminder of cars approaching.
This shot of a fairly mild intersection in India fails to show the most hazardous part of driving: working around beasts of burden such as elephants, donkeys, and horses.
Check this one out. It gives a good idea of how drivers work the center line and motorcycles weave in and out. At the end, the driver makes a left turn at an intersection with a flashing red light. I am under the impression that traffic lights in India exist merely to tell you to watch out for even more traffic approaching from all directions.
