If your web site has changed and you want to make sure that users go to the correct pages, you have an option if you are using the Apache web server.

This particular example is for Apache 2.0.

Redirection of web requests is handled through the Apache mod_alias module.

    Note from Apache:
mod_alias is designed to handle simple URL manipulation tasks. For more complicated tasks such as manipulating the query string, use the tools provided by mod_rewrite

The old Group29 web site was purely static HTML pages. With the conversion to a content management system, all the pages are dynamically generated with distinct URLs.

Here is an example of three redirects done on the Group29 web site using an .htaccess configuration file:

    Redirect 301 a.html
    Redirect 301 /index.html
    Redirect 301 /about.html

The Redirect 301 tells any web search bots that this is a permanent redirection. So for Group29, all of the old movie reviews that used to be on the a.html page, can not be accessed by the modules.php?name=MovieReviews&rop=A page. This URL is a command to select all the "A" movie reviews from the database.

Apache has a tutorial about the use of .htaccess files with their 2.0 web server.

Here is a link to the mod_rewrite tutorial:
