Saving Private Ryan [26]

VERY good flick, easily the best overall movie of the year so far (which considering how the movies have been this year is not saying much, but I would "rate" it very favorably against most past year winners). Yes the "critics" are correct it is quite graphic in the portrayal of "the violence of war", but I actually in one sense "appreciated" that someone did a "real" view of how war can be quite brutal (I must be drawing on some "past life" memories there since I've never been there myself...). It was actually more graphic (and I guess in a sense more violent) than even "Full Metal Jacket". There are some sequences where you as a guy/wargammer will think "ah, yo, moron, stay focused or your gonna die - oooops, too late". Tom Hanks was great, and I would not be surprised if he was at least nominated (if not the winner) for and oscar, etc. (Damn he's come a long way from "Busom Buddies"). {BG}
