    Shakespeare in Love [27]

    Movie Reviews

No I am not going soft. This was a great movie. I was introduced the Bill S. during college while doing plays. And fell in love with the wit, wisdom and word play that was William Shakespeare. This movies captures the essence of trying to pull off an original prodcution of a play while the playwright is still writing it. On top of that, this one just happens to become Romeo and Juliet. The love scenes while they recite the actual dialog of the R&J play are priceless. They twist the meaning of the scenes around masterfully.

The last behind-the-scenes Shakespeare movie that I saw that riveted me so was Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, which of course was done by the same Author: Tom Stoppard. Get the video, you'll see what I mean. I am not a Gwyneth Paltrow fan. But she does a very good job here. The support actors are super. They all add to the movie wonderfully without detracting from the central thrust (pun intended, see the movie.) Geoffrey Rush is priceless as the theater owner. "I don't know, its all a mystery."

If you ever done, read, seen, appreciated, slept through Shakespeare - go see this. Note: Big date film with strong potential help to carry relationship through the summer. [AB]
