As Good as it Gets [25]

    Movie Reviews

The central character, Melvin Udall (Jack Nicholson), plays a diagnosed obsessive-compulsive who takes his frustrations out on the world by being mean. He starts the film by throwing a cute little dog down the trash chute, then calling his gay neighbor (Greg Kinnear) names. He then goes to his favorite diner and berates his waitress (Helen Hunt) - the only one in the place who will even deal with him. The whole movie is a great balance between serious and humorous situations.

The acting on Jack's part was enough for me to like this movie. But then, I've never seen a movie with Jack Nicholson that I didn't like. I think Jack should run for president. Helen Hunt was cute and was upstaged only by the little dog. I won't go into any more detail because I don't want to give away the plot; which would be pretty easy to do because the simplicity of the plot is this movie's only shortfall. [GV]
