    The Avengers [28]

    Movie Reviews

    I only had one "complaint" (Thor should have been more buff...did not bulk up enough for the movie this time).

    27...easy...maybe 28

    Other than that...Too much Awesomeness...

    Great fights...the ones between the heroes were great!

    Hawkeye proving he is a better archer than even Legolas...
    Captain America showing why he is the leader...
    BEST Hulk (and Bruce Banner) of any of the movies so far... Black Widow defines sexy for the movie...
    Iron Man is still the hero I wanted to be...so much cool tech/toys...
    The actress selected for Maria Hill was PERFECT...exactly how I pictured Hill to look...
    Nick Fury proving WHY he is the absolute biggest bad-a$$ in all of the Marvel Universe...
    Loki...amazingly manipulative and multi-level in his plotting and evil (and yet still likeable like he was in the Thor movie)
    I agree about the dialog too...many many many great lines...I think Loki delivers the best one of the whole movie though. Great "Easter Egg" (and cameo for the villain for the next Avengers movie)...and VERY funny "Easter Egg" at the very end of the film.

    I still do not know what Hulk told Loki after their "meeting" in Starks Tower since the crowd was laughing and cheering so much.

    Actually Jeremy Renner did a great job...hes a bit older than I would expect from Hawkeye but he did the role well...Also...both Nick Fury and Hawkeye are based more on the Ultimate Marvel Universe (launched with "Ultimate Spider-man in the 90s)...and Nick in that universe is black...and now that I think about it...Hawkeye in that universe is an older hardened assassin/veteran of SHIELD so Renner is a good fit from that perspective.

    Now in a PC thing...Marvel has recently decided to change Hawkeyes costume to match the movie and abandoned the purple all together...

    Also...Marvels regular Fury is first and foremost a spy (and I love Nick Fury theres an entire shelf of trades devoted to just Nick)...but Jackson (and the Ultimates Universe Fury) is more of a planner/schemer and a TOTAL "bad ass" Fury (in the Ultimate Universe when he has the Ultimates (Avengers) and the FF beat back the Galactus of that universe - in a sequence similar but MUCH better than the second FF movie - Anyway...having beaten Galactus the rest of the alien races in the Ultimates Universe will now fear Earth - Fury comments that when he dies he wonders if "God will put up a fight or just move over and let me sit down"...

    The movies all seem to follow more the "Ultimate Marvel Universe" not the Original Marvel Universe that we grew up with and know and love.(most of the older Ultimate Universe books are great reads/stories...the starting run of Ultimate Spider-man (with Peter as Spidey) are beyond awesome...best Spidey Marvel has done since the 90s (I ca not even read the original Marvel Universe Spidey anymore since they brought back the Green Goblin and Spidey made a "deal" with Mephisto to "sell" his marriage/love of MJ to bring his Aunt back to life (Im not even sure how Aunt May got brought back in the first place when Marvel did a GREAT story of her death in a hospital room telling Peter how proud she was of him...how she knew all along but never told him because it seemed so important to him that he kept the secret from her...it was awesome storytelling)...but I digress...the Ultimate FF are great...Ultimates (Avengers) are 50/50 for greatness...Ultimate X-Men SUCKED...but Ill also admit that I have not touched the Ultimate Universe since their Ultimatum storyline...it was awful and made that universe unpalitable for me)

    Sadly Marvel about 10+ years ago (about the time Joe Quesada took over) gave up great story telling for "Desperate Housewives"/"Grays Anatomy"/"Reality TV" crap/hype (Joe "saved" them from going bankrupt...but completely lost the soul of Marvel and their heroes in the process)...which is why DC has been kicking their ass in sales since DC "relaunched" 7 months or so ago (dropped prices by over $1.00 from what Marvel charges AND decided to focus back on good story telling...they are now beating Marvel in market share - first time since I started buying comics and that was a LONG time ago - and claiming 6 of the top 10 books every month for the last 7 months!) {WG}
