    Dark City [24]

    Movie Reviews

Having seen no trailers or previews for this film I was somewhat skeptical going into the theatre after plunking down my $7.50. My friends assured me it was going to be a good movie and since I usually beat them silly if the steer me wrong, I went ahead with it. Trying to review the film without spoiling it is rather difficult so I'll throw some comparisons out for you. Rod Serling meets Jean-Pierre Jeunet (that French guy that did City of Lost Children) comes immediatly to mind. Another analogy is Brazil meets Batman. Much of the film is VERY Burton-esque in style, lighting and camera direction. The genre was, I think very much in the style of the first Batman film. Gritty, and ummm... dark! (hence the name :)

If you can survive the first 20 or so minutes, and you sort of like what I've compared to above, by all means check it out. A very intersting story. Keifer Sutherland goes way beyond his more recent scum roles (A Time to Kill, Eye for an Eye etc.) Worth checking out. [SD]
