Air Force One [22]
Harrison Ford plays the President of the United States, who is returning from Russia on Air Force One, the presidential aircraft. Russian radicals, who want to return their country to former glory before being corrupted by the west, get aboard the plane and are able to gain control. The secret service attempts to get the president out of the plane using an escape pod, but he remains on board to repel the forces of evil.
There are a few things about this movie I need to mention before I start preparing my review. As a pilot, a scene offended me where the Boeing 747 is steered through an aggressive left turn after attempting to land. Planes don't turn as sharp as the one in the movie. Other scenes also had planes or people working outside the laws of physics. Another glaring problem in the movie has to do with William H. Macy, who I have always liked as an actor. He plays an Air Force Major who wears pilot's wings on his uniform throughout the film, but he claims to not be a pilot when called upon to fly an airplane. This is a glaring mistake in the production of this movie.
The plot is a fantasy, and the makers of this movie did a fine job of placing bad guys into positions of abusive power over the innocent people who happened to be on the plane. By continuously abusing the innocent victims, the viewers are treated to a continuous adrenal rush of anger that made me want to cheer every retribution against the terrorists. If you can get past the less than believable aspects of "Die Hard" on a 747, then you will enjoy this movie. {KC}
