Island of Dr. Moreau, The [3] -1996-

think that this movie was made for one reason and one reason only....Marlon Brando needed a new addition onto his mansion in Tahiti. Seriously - the Frenetic movie-man had some high expectations for this movie and as soon as it began I knew it was going to be bad.

Val Kilmer saves a refugee from the ocean and takes him to the wonderful Isand of Dr. Moreau. On the way to the Island, Kilmer injects the refugee with some genetic goo to make him one of the creatures in the island. Marlon Brando plays Dr. Moreau and does an awful job of it. As for the hapless refugee we find he is lucky that the Doctor has finally perfected his genetic goo and is not changing into one of the cat like creatures roaming the Island. Weird things start happening: One of the creatures somehow removes his control device from his body. That creature then finds a stash of weapons (enough to equip an army). Death, destruction, and mayhem follow - everything in the book - including the death of Dr. Moreau (thank god) and his henchman Kilmer. The refugee cleans house and the movie ends with him leaving the island and all the creatures left behind live happily ever after.

One final word on this movie, "It's CRAP!" Wait! I think I just heard Burt Lancaster rolling over in his grave. {MA}
