Fun: Matchbox Superfast 2006 Waves of Die Cast Toys Appearing
    Matchbox Die Cast Cars
According to the word on the street, the Matchbox Superfast 2006 line will be the last of this series of die cast toys from Mattel. The Matchbox 35th Anniversary and Matchbox 2005 sets have been great and I have picked up all waves from A to G in both series to get all 75 cars. I recently picked up the Autobahn and SUV series too. I am still on the fence as to whether I should get the 2006 series. They are underway already. There are only 15,500 castings being made of the Superfast Series 3 line.

The waves began naming with H, seemingly picking up from Wave G at the end of the Matchbox 2005 series. The wave names come from the box designation: G5550-H is called wave H. The Superfast 2005 series started with G5550-A. Although, Mattel appears to have skipped over Wave I and has released Wave J on the heels of the Wave H. That is because the box would be G5550-I which could be mis-identified as G5550-1. The Wave O will also probably be labeled wave P because of this.

Matchbox Streakers were new in the 1975 catalog. They were especially decaled and their boxes had the word Streakers in special type. This type has been recreated for some special Streakers models for the 2006 series. There will probably be two Streakers models in each wave of twelve, and one in the final wave for a total of thirteen. There will be probably two chase cars in each wave. Chase cars are split 7,750 each in their run of 15,500 with two different color/wheel combinations. For example, in Wave H the Scion xB will have either White or Dark green paint.

More models with 5 spoke wheels (5SW) appear; these are my favorites.

    Wave H
#3 1956 Cadillac El Dorado (Black & Grey)
#8 1965 Ford Mustang GT (White) (Streakers)
#23 Dodge Viper GTS (metallic red)
    #26 1956 Ford F-100 (metallic purple)
    #31 Ambulance (White)
    #32 Lincoln Navigator (bluish Grey)
    #38 Volvo XC90 (Black)
#45 Ford Sunliner (Black & White)
#56 Porsche Boxter (Metallic Silver or Metallic red chase car)
#64 Scion xB (White or Green chase car)

Wave H ships with two models duplicated for 10 unique models in total. This wave was supposed to have the Ford GT, but it was moved to Wave J. Also the Tractor Cab was supposed to appear. A package change caused the models to be held out.

Wave I was skipped in the naming convention

    Wave J
#2 2004 Ford F150 Lightning SVT (white chase car)
#16 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 SC (red chase car) with 5SW
    #20 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo (white)
#28 1999 Ford Falcon Police (black and white)
#29 1998 Jeep Wrangler with Equipment (gold with black top)
    #34 2003 Nissan 350Z (burnt gold)
    #39 1987 GMC Wrecker (Silver/Black)
#41 2004 Ford GT (red Streaker)
    #44 976 Corvette T Top (red Streaker)
    #51 Land Rover Discovery (black)
#55 2004 Mitsubishi Eclipse (white Streaker)
#69 London Taxi with 5SW (grey with black roofline)

There are three Streakers in this wave. The Mercury cougar and Chevy Van were preliminarily scheduled for this wave, but were replaced by the Mitsubishi Eclipse and Ford GT. Also apparently with the London taxi, there are two runs of different wheel/color combinations of 7,750 each, making it the chase car. Dealers are calling the SVT and Shelby chase cars, I am not sure this is the case. Check out the box for the 55 Eclipse to see if it printed as a reverse image!
