Fictional Curse Of The Bambino Lifted from Boston Red Sox
    Sports: Athletic Contests
The Boston Red Sox won the 2004 Major League Baseball World Series in spectacular fashion. The Sox won eight straight games to smash the mythical "Curse Of The Bambino" to smithereens. The "curse", supposedly played out by Boston's poor luck in beating New York and losing critical games by unfortunate events, was really the imagination of several million New Englanders believing the Sox could never win the big one.

More information on the games and the victory parade can be found on The Boston Globe Red Sox web site

Much more information about the trials and tribulations can be read at the Wikipedia blog about "The Curse of The Bambino". The short story is that Boston has not won a World Series since owner Harry Frazee used the proceeds from the sale of Babe Ruth to finance the production of a Broadway musical, No, No, Nanette. The show introduced songs such as "I Want to Be Happy" and "Tea For Two." Babe went to the Yankees and helped establish the New York dynasty.

Here is a short blog summary of the 2004 world series. The Red Sox then met the St. Louis Cardinals, the team to whom they lost the 1946 World Series and 1967 World Series. In the 2004 World Series with a four game sweep to victory, the Red Sox successfully ended the eighty-six year title drought — and with it, the so-called "curse." The fourth and final game of the series took place in the somewhat fitting complete darkness of a total lunar eclipse. In an altogether appropriate end to the "Curse of the Bambino," the final out of the game was made on Cardinals shortstop Edgar Renteria - who wore Babe Ruth's old uniform number, 3. You are officially not cursed now until 86 more years go by without a Red Sox World Series championship.

So now the chant will go: "Two Thousand, Fo-er!" [clap, clap, clap-clap], "Two Thousand, Fo-er!" [clap, clap, clap-clap]".

I think that the Red Sox were lucky to be able to line up all their mystical barriers in a row:
    • Can't win the big one
    • Can't beat the Yankees
    • Can't win a big one against the Yankees
    • Can't win in Yankee Stadium
    • Can't beat the Yankees in a series at Yankee Stadium
    • Can't beat the Yankees at a three game deficit
    • Can't beat the 2004 Cardinals, the team with the best record in the National League
    • Can't win the World Series
What do you want? Blotting out of a celestial body? Oh, wait you had that too.
