UCLA Bruins win 2007 Pac-10 regular season men's basketball title
    The Sport of Basketball
Repeating from last year, the UCLA Bruins again win the Pacific 10 conference men's basketball regular season with a 15-3 record. They go undefeated at home for the first time since 1975. However, right after beating Washington State in Pullman, the Bruins skidded hard at Washington and in the Pac 10 tournament.

The Bruins won the 2006 title [See the Group29 article]. But, this time they are not finishing hot. The Bruins lost at Washington on National TV. Then they lost to California in Los Angeles in the first round of the Pac-10 tournament.

Oregon, the PAC 10 tourney champion locked up a number 3 seed in the NCAA tournament with a killer drubbing of USC in the tournament championship. USC still got a number 5 seed.

UCLA likely could have finished as the AP number 1 or 2 if they had won out. They definitely would have been a number 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. As it is, they ended up a number 2 and face Weber State in the first round. The winner of that game faces the Indiana/Gonzaga winner. This is a similar path from last year. Gonzaga has fallen down hard however and may not even get past Indiana.

As far as the PAC-10 goes, the media is giving UCLA a lot of respect. But Oregon, Washington State, and USC are getting no mentions. The CBS crew repeatedly mentioned how tough that East bracket would be with North Carolina, Georgetown, and Texas. Most are picking Georgetown to come out of there. This is a team that was handily beaten by Oregon 50-57 AT HOME. I like the Cougars to come out of that bracket by slowing everyone down.

I see Oregon, UCLA, and Washington State all as possibilities for the final four. UCLA has a lot of soul searching to do to repeat last years hot finish.
