College football 2007 Week 2 Analysis
Michigan just cannot stop the slide, and neither can Notre Dame. They are about to crash into each other. With Chad Henne out, it is a game for anyone. We will see how much longer the Michigan fans will be crying like little girls next week. In their own little world, this is a match up of two college football programs of titanic proportions. Oregon kicked Wolverine butt all the way to Toledo from Michigan Stadium. In fact, the luster fell off of the Appalachian State team pretty quickly. Although, they are among others receiving votes in the AP poll. I was quite wrong. I predicted that the Wolverines would respond strongly. Instead, Michigan may be near to ending their streak of sellouts.
LSU opened a can on Virginia Tech 48-7 and Oklahoma did the same to Miami 51-13. In case you were wondering, that was Miami of Florida. The Sooners used up some karma earned in the 1980s when the Hurricanes dumped them from the national title picture. In case you were wondering, Miami of Ohio lost in 3 overtimes to Minnesota giving rookie coach Tim Brewster his first win. He is going to be an expert at overtime for sure. At least Les Miles held up his part of the big talk bargain.
The Washington Huskies ended any interest in Boise State and their 13 game winning streak. Notre Dame would give a lot to get the record that Ty Willingham is starting out with the Huskies. Ohio State did not look very convincing against Akron. The Buckeyes allowed the Zips to get a safety! Things may not go well for the Buckeyes when they get to Seattle. I predict that Purdue may emerge as the Big Ten champion this year. A telling game comes in November at Penn State. Wisconsin struggled against UNLV and Penn State struggled against Notre Dame. UCLA ended the BYU cougar winning streak and will play the Utes for the Utah state football championship next week. The PAC 10 conference seems to be on the right track so far to propel USC to the National Championship. With some powerhouse wins by opponents, USC could show to be the strongest force since the Tunguska event if they emerge unscathed in conference play.
The Clemson/South Carolina intersectional game could very well be a major factor in the BCS. Both teams appear on a collision course for a high stakes game. Georgia Tech will be waiting for the tigers in two weeks for a big one.
