Where to buy the Wii? (Wii have a problem!)
    Games: Computer Games
The new Nintendo Wii game console is on a killing spree in the video game market. Going into November 2007, it is the most desirable, and hardest to obtain video game system. Our family was exposed to the Wii a few weeks ago while visiting friends who have owned one for a while. It was an immediate hit with the kids and adults just because of the unique and interactive nature of the game controllers. Just three of the five basic games, tennis, baseball, and bowling were good for hours of entertainment.

The manufacturers suggested retail price (MSRP) of the Nintendo Wii is $249.00 in the United States, which is what the original news release predicted in September 2006 on the Nintendo web site.

When the Christmas 2007 shopping season starts on Friday November 23, 2007, the Wii probably will be very difficult to obtain. Right now, two retail outlets are getting them twenty or so at a time: Target and Toys R Us. They usually arrive first thing on Sunday morning. According to retail workers in the electronics department, they typically last one to three days at most. Best Buy also obtains a few at a time as well. They may or may not be appearing in the Sunday newspaper insert, because they have been selling out before most people read their Sunday papers.

I was able to obtain one for $249 plus tax at Target this past Sunday. I am storing it away for Christmas. On eBay today, there appears to be a Wii auction ending every minute or so for $300+ dollars along with shipping and insurance. BestBuy.com has been out of stock. Wal Mart has been offering a premium bundle for more than $600, and they are out of stock too.

The kids got a chance to use the Nun chuck controllers and play the boxing match. I have to say it was disconcerting, yet entertaining watching them slug it out.

I have been following the Wii story quite a bit this year. One of my current favorite web sites to check is Wiihaveaproblem.com. There are all sorts of stories of broken TV sets, bashed lamps and furniture, as well as bashed pets. Needless to say, I hope Wii play does not get the best of my Sharp Aquos HDTV.

I have also heard anecdotally among the people that I know that the Wii is the console to get. I have yet to meet someone in my age group who has an XBOX 360 or PS3. Apparently, the masses are agreeing with my little community. There have been 9 million Wii consoles sold, just beating XBOX 260 as of September 2007. I would lump myself in the casual gamer category defined in the article. That is, those that have never before purchased a gaming console.
