College Football 2007 Week 10 Analysis
    Sports: Athletic Contests
But for knocking UCLA starting quarterback out in week 6 and recovering fumbles and interceptions from a walk-on third string, Notre Dame would be 0-9. The UCLA win is the only thing out of place for Notre Dame. Otherwise, they are right where we expected them to be at week two. How about those Midshipmen? Navy had not beaten Notre Dame in a whole lifetime of college football. The contract for Charlie Weis is supposed to run through 2015. That is a lot of teeth gnashing.

The season for UCLA Coach Karl Dorrell really comes down to the old Charlie Brown quote with the game on the line Will he be the hero, or will he be the goat? If, and this is a big IF. If the Bruins beat Arizona State, Oregon, and USC 1-2-3, then they go to the Rose Bowl. Arizona State and USC need help from UCLA and Arizona to win the PAC-10. Oregon just needs to win out. Sitting at number 3 in the BCS gives them a chance to go to the title game. Most likely they will get the Rose Bowl should Ohio State win out.

In the Big East, it is still rolling to BC against Virginia in the Championship game, with Virginia tech having an inside shot, and Clemson an outside shot. Wake Forest would need a lot of help at this point.

LSU passed their last midterm, now they need to finish their homework assignments to get ready for the SEC championship. The rest of the SEC is good too. We all know that when teams beat up on each other that a conference is good. I give that to the SEC and PAC-10. With one loss, LSU may still be a better team than an undefeated Ohio State.

Tennessee could still be the other SEC championship representative by virtue of their victory over Georgia earlier on week six.

Kansas big timed Nebraska 76-39. That is one of the few noteworthy scores I have mentioned all season. We are talking the type of score that the 1983 Huskers racked up on a number of teams. In fact, in the seventies through 2004, Nebraska has a lot of 50-60 point wins against Nebraska. The 76 points by the Jayhawks represents the most scored by EITHER team in the series, and that is saying something. That would have been a great game to see for Kansas fans. Kansas vs Missouri to get to the Big 12 championship and then Kansas vs Oklahoma, in the title game. Motivational speeches have little effect with that kind of remaining schedule.

No matter what happens now, it is Michigan vs Ohio State for the Big ten championship. I am going out on a limb weeks early to say that the Buckeyes are going to wish that the Big Ten conference never permitted Michigan to schedule Appalachian State.
