TSA and assistive animals

NWA media relations informed me that, by law, they are not permitted to discriminate against someone who wishes to bring an untrained animal into an airplane cabin if the animal is an assistive animal
I have a strong concern that there is a security loophole that could be exploited. More to the point, I am concerned that an animal brought on board an airplane as an assistive animal could be used as one deadly weapon in a terrorist's arsenal
Quite frankly, I have never encountered a Great Dane in an airplane cabin. I do not wish to either.
Verbal confirmation from a passenger, that a possibly untrained animal brought on board is an assistive animal, is not sufficient in my opinion. Airline personnel should have the ability to discriminate which animals should be permitted on board.
The Department Of Transportation has undertaken elaborate measures to assure the American public that it is safe to fly. I would suggest that this not be overlooked.
A narrower definition of what constitutes "an assistive animal" would certainly help.
