Minnesota Thunder A League Soccer
|
|
The Minnesota Thunder are an A-League soccer team in the United Soccer League. Recently, I was able to attend one of the regular season games against the Portland Timber, which ended in a 2-2 tie.
The Thunder have their own special cheering section, The Dark Clouds, who hope to bring a sort of organized subtle hooliganism to the games.
The games are played at James Griffin Stadium at St. Paul Central High School which has a capacity of 5,000. This stadium was full for the final home game with a stated attendance of 5,018. The action is good, but not as exciting as Olympic or World Cup soccer. But now my appetite is whetted for an F.A. game in the United Kingdom.
While I visited London in May 1998, London Arsenal played Newcastle United at Wembley stadium for the FA Cup final. Arsnenal defeated Newcastle 2-0 (courtesy of arseweb.com)
