Fun: Matchbox Superfast 2005 Waves A, B, C, and D updates

Mattel is continuing with their very cool Matchbox Superfast collectible series. I like the packaging, which is a bubble pack with a Matchbox collectible box inside. The box graphics resemble those on the original Superfast packaging from the 1970s. The prices are quite reasonable for the average toy buyer too, should he or she be so lucky to find the model in the store!
The packaging mimics some found in the late 1960's drug store bubble packs. Not all retailers had the Matchbox 1-75 carousel. Some hung their models on pegboards in bubble packs on store shelves.
In an earlier article I listed out the complete set with their catalog numbers. Here are updates of the first four waves with their 1-75 model numbers.
I found a complete set of Wave A at Toys R Us. I have also found 10 of 12 Wave B models at Walmart. Unbelievably, these are going for $1.99. I have bought a few extras, but I have not stripped the shelves. I ordered a complete set of C from a toy dealer. The coolest model so far, in my opinion, is the Checker cab with the classic Superfast wheel style.

Superfast Wheels (Score: 1)

(User Info ) http://www.group29.com | | So far, I like the cars with the old style real superfast wheels much better then the new style "pimp rig" low profile wheels. Wave C introduced a new dish style concave wheel which is only slightly better. Wave C also has six of the twelve models with older style 5 spoke wheels. They are all appropriate on the pre-1968 models. The 1956 Ford Sunliner is a nice surprise and is one of my favorites so far along with the pink 1957 Thunderbird. |

(User Info ) http://www.group29.com | | Wave D just arrived and it is cool too. The HUMVEE is one of the nicest of the lot. It brings to mind several of the 70s Matchbox Superfast military vehicles like the Weasel, Stoat, and Badger. The 1956 Ford F-100 is the first stock looking version I can think of and it has 5 spoke superfast wheels. the #27 Dodge Dart looks great with 5SW, much better than last years pimprig-wheeled version. The pink hemi cuda looks like it walked right out of the 1972 lineup. I would have given a lot in those years to get the Chevelle or Mustang 428. The detail on these cars seems incredible for the price. Wave D is a smash hit with me. I like all 12 models and the wheels work on all 12. |
