Games: Computer GamesThe new Nintendo Wii game console is on a killing spree in the video game market. Going into November 2007, it is the most desirable, and hardest to obtain video game system. Our family was exposed to the Wii a few weeks ago while visiting friends who have owned one for a while. It was an immediate hit with the kids and adults just because of the unique and interactive nature of the game controllers. Just three of the five basic games, tennis, baseball, and bowling were good for hours of entertainment.

I have ranked these in order of how many hours I have spent playing them. Some of them, Sim City and Civilization for example, I have spent many consecutive hours playing. Others, like the Solitaire games, have occupied my time for 20 minutes or so on numerous occasions. I have never owned a computer with greatly advanced video capabilities, so I have never really played some of the action or first person shooter games that most people seem to find enjoyable.

Interestingly, four card games, three of them solitaire games, made the list. If you had spent as much time as I had playing cards games, you would certainly appreciate that the computer handles the mundane details of shuffling and dealing so that you can spend more time actually playing.

Games: Computer GamesHalo has been the most popular Microsoft Xbox game for three years running, with 5 million copies sold. The Microsoft Xbox is fighting it out with the Sony PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube for game console dominance.

Master Chief gets to be the first person shooter again in the Halo world, a homage to Larry Nivenís Ringworld science fiction novels. The biggest advantage that Microsoft kicked off is the Xbox online and the ability to run different types of games with other players from around the world. Excellent reviews for Halo can be found on the IGN web site.

Games: Computer GamesAll of the help desk folks in my company are playing a new game between support calls. It is called "Flamingo Drive" and it can be found on the Yeti Sports Page in the download section. It requires the Flash player from Macromedia.
