Tim Burton’s
The Nightmare before Christmas was a hilarious look at how the spook world could intrude on a religious turned secular holiday. This movie promises to appeal to the same type of audience. Those who were fans of the Charles Adams cartoons in the New Yorker will certainly like the macabre humor of Corpse Bride. Johnny Depp voices lead Victor Van Dort, who is about to marry Victoria Everglot. He accidentally puts the wedding ring on what he thinks is a tree root, but is actually the finger of dead woman “Corpse Bride” voiced by Helena Bonham Carter. I look forward to seeing the movie. I am not sure if I will be able to catch it in the theaters, as I get two, maybe three theater screenings per year at this stage with young children at home. Danny Elfman has scored the theme. He has collaborated with Burton before in Batman and Nightmare before Christmas to add intensity to the film. Elfman’s theme to Desperate Housewives and The Simpsons help get your adrenalin going to take in all the action. Just recently, on the premiere of the new Fox show,
American Dad, Patrick “Captain Picard” Stewart sang the
Oingo Boingo hit “Little Girls”. (Of course, in the show Stewart’s character was sleeping with Haley Smith, the 18-year-old daughter of the American Dad Stan Smith.) This type of humor, which dances across the line of “decency”, is exactly what Burton wants to provide.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory marked the 11th Collaboration between Tim Burton and Danny Elfman. So, this must be the 12th. {BB}
