    Midnight Showing

    Not much of a crowd. (Maybe everyone was at Madagascar 3?)

    Trying to avoid spoilers.

    Pluses: David. Engineers. The Captian. Django Unchained Trailer.
    Minuses: clichéd relationships. When something is rolling towards you, and can run you over, do not run in a straight line away from it! Especially when you have 100% open terrain. I guess people comfortable with space travel are still one- dimensional thinkers. And why are all [movie] biologists so stupid?

    The pacing was tight and some of the scenes were brilliant. Gore was kept to a minimum - it could have been over to top and avoiding that helped the movie tension. It has one flaw that all prequels have - the sets and CG work blow the previous movies out of that water. This makes it hard to buy into "this is history" for the original movies.

    Also - scope. The first two movies are "claustrophobic". Prometheus does not have the same "trapped" tension.

    It tries hard to answer questions and gives a weak attempt to set up a larger question.

    It scores high because of its place in the Alien Franchise: Third best film, with one and two tied for first. (The others can be burned and used for fertilizer.) And because it gave a good appearance of complexity to the world / space / life.

    PS Interesting thread through the movie on faith. It started corny for me, but I thought it had a subtle strength at the end. A subtext that helped in the overall weave - without being distracting. {AB}
