Anchorman - The Legend Of Ron Burgundy [18]

Ever since I saw Will Ferrell provide the cowbell for Blue Oyster Cult in the Saturday Night Live presentation of "Behind the Music" I have thought that he has a comedic talent. He and Jack Black did a fantastic rendition of the lyrics to the music that plays when an academy award recepient makes their speech too long. ("You're boring...no need to thank your parakeet...you're boring...Look at Catherine Zeta Jones...she's snoring")

But I digress. In short, I like Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate and Fred Willard. So the casting will work. Ron Burgundy will be very smugly played by Ferrell and we will want to see him skewered.

The 70's anchorman sendup was done at the time by the Ted Baxter character in Mary Tyler Moore TV show. Even the Jim Dial character did it in the 80's on the Murphy Brown TV show. Still, this genre deserves another shot just to keep the current crop of anchors properly grounded. In my TV market, two anchors were fired last night (Kent Ninomiya and Harris Faulkner.) The reason given was low ratings even after the station sank a bunch of money into ads featuring them with Lou Grant as their news director. It is a cutthroat business. And when the competition heats up it can be nasty and funny.

This will be a half price theater movie or DVD. It might also be great for a date too. {BB}
