    Head In The Clouds [12]

    Expectation Reviews
    Advertised as "a sweeping romantic drama set in 1930's England, Paris, and Spain." Gilda Bessé (Charlize Theron) hooks up with both Guy Malyon (Stuart Townsend), an Irish scholar and Mia (Penélope Cruz), a refugee from Spain. As the world drifts toward war, Gilda defiantly pursues her hedonistic lifestyle and her burgeoning career as a photographer. But Guy and Mia feel impelled to join the Spanish Civil War, and the three friends are separated - seemingly forever.

    Ms. Theron was fresh out of her filming of The Life And Death Of Peter Sellers as Britt Eklund and also her Oscar winning performance as Aileen in Monster. As a side note, the Peter Sellers movie as of yet has no dates set for the U.S. I suspect it will be straight to DVD, or come in around Oscar time.

    This promises to be a fictionalized account of a swinging spy girl and her lovers. The NAZIs will always be the bad guys of course. Although it remains to be seen whether the either Facist National Front or the Republican/Socialist/Communist Popular Front will be seen in a better light. My opinion is that anti-facism pro-socialism guarantees studio backing...

    Keep the children away from this R rated fiasco which may well find itself in the Academy award race in 2005. It has all the ingredients: Oscar Starlet, Good looking foreign leading man, steamy love scenes with aformentioned actors, Location shots, Political left wing message right before election time, and evil Nazis. You cannot lose with evil Nazis. Watch this movie on DVD around Oscar time. {BB}
