    Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan [14]

    Expectation Reviews
    Borat has finally hit the big screen. Sacha Baron Cohen plays Borat Sagdiyev, one of his characters from the Ali G. show. Borat is an antisemitic TV reporter character from Kazakhstan. His English is mangled and he comes off as a halfway sophisticated third world country hick.

    In my opinion, the best work Sacha Baron Cohen has done is the voice of King Julien the Lemur in the Madagascar movie. Sacha has also appeared in the Talladega nights movie as the nemesis of Ricky Bobby.

    Sacha usually appears in character in the United States. I have yet to see him interviewed straight. He does not appear in the behinds the scenes on the Madagascar DVD. He recently did an interview on the David Letterman show in character. Dave was less than thrilled with the whole thing.

    In one of his comedy routines a few years ago, he inspired an audience in Arizona to sing "Throw the Jew Down the Well". We understand that Sacha actually is Jewish, so is it self loathing or is part of his schtick is to expose hypocrisy by playing dumb? Smart people playing dumb has never been good entertainment for me, but I sincerely hope that is what he is trying to pull off.

    R rated and definitely not for the kids. If you catch this on HBO at the hotel sometime, it might be worth it. {BB}
