We have a web site set up for downloads of automatic builds of our iOS IPA files. The ipa files are actually just compressed files. Internet explorer will actually save them as .zip files. It is quite an annoyance.

This blog post tells why the problem occurs.

Appendix C of the Apple iOS Deployment Technical Reference Guide explains how to set up your web server, IIS or Apache, to serve up in house IPA files for downloading on devices.
