Starship Troopers [29]

This movie earns the coveted 29 out of 29 for spectacular effects, great story line and well-matched actors and actresses. Robert Heinlein is my favorite author, and I had read the book several times. The movie unfolded much as I imagined and followed the book very closely in my opinion. One item missing from the plot is that Johnny Rico's father survives the asteroid bombing of Buenos Aires and eventually joins the Mobile Infantry. However, the movie was already 130 minutes long and many subplots had to be condensed or removed.

Robert Heinlein was a very patriotic individual and this movie retains his idea for the book, that is: All who wish to participate and have a voice in government must first spend time in civil service. This movie is neither for the squeamish nor for the pre-teens. A high blood-and-guts-gore content also prevents this from appealing to mainstream moviegoers. {BB}
