Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope -Special Edition 1997- [28]

    Movie Reviews

The very movie which inspired the launching of the 29 scale did not live up to my expectations! It has been quite some time since I saw the movie in the theater. So, most of the movie was new again. I enjoyed the re-done special effects. I also liked the addition of the Jabba the Hut footage. Although Jabba looks much smaller, more mobile, and less evil than in Episode VI. We get a look at Boba Fett in that scene too. Why does Han step Jabba's tail? Probably because Jabba was not originally filmed as a giant slug in the original movie.

However, Where was the "Shooting womp rats in Beggar's Canyon" scene? How are we supposed to know that Luke is a pilot? He NEVER demonstrates ANY piloting skills up until the big battle over the Death Star. He is just a whining farm boy as far as we know. During the Star Wars TV special, we saw a scene from the movie where Luke watches the space battle overhead with his binoculars. That scene never made it into the movie. It does appear in the novelization of the book though.

Also, why is Princess Leia firing Dirty Harry's .44 magnum during the bridge swing scene? The sound bite was a bit much. Overall, this movie is one of the finest made. But, My expectations were a little bit too pumped. [BB]
