National Lampoon's Vacation [20]

Chevy Chase has found a role that works: "The Lucky Schmuck". His character reeks of ineptitude, but somehow he manages to get through life. This character was evident in Modern Problems, but now Clark Griswold does not have the magical powers. Clark has a beautiful wife (played by Beverly D'Angelo) and a stable middle-class existence. He could be everyman.

The big payoff is when the passive schmuck develops some agressiveness and manages to get things set back in order. A dead aunt on the luggage rack and a dead dog tied to the car bumper are typical National Lampoon sick humor moments. Nevertheless we still like the characters. Lots of laughs in this one. {BB}
