Lost in Space [22]

Gary Oldman plays a truly evil Dr. Smith in a good remake of the original TV Series. He knows that a truly successful evil overlord must do the dirty work himself. Dr. Smith is just not very successful. Critics have said that the original series lost much of its seriousness and artistry when it went from black and white to color. I would imagine that the costume designers at the time did not realize how much color is too much. This movie brings you back to how serious a problem it is to be "lost in space." We do end up rehashing an original episode plot. (Recall when Dr. Smith becomes part of a planet wide computer system?) So, at the end will you be saying "Gilligan's island in space?" I think not. The suspense is good and the monsters are scary. [BB]
