    Movie Reviews

    After waiting for what seemed an eternity to see this movie (I believe I saw the first teaser in February 1997), I have to say it lived up to my expectations. The [Hollywood] Hype Machine was daunting, but I never let in to seeing this movie for anything else but the parody it was meant to be.

    Tommy Lee Jones was excellent as the smooth-talking jaded veteran of the Super Secret Government Agency responsable for keeping track of all the aliens on the earth. Yes, it is true some are legal immigrants (witness: Sylvester Stallone, Elvis) and some are just visiting (the antagonist cockroach). Will Smith continues to develop this likable wiseguy (a more polite version of Eddie Murphy's Axel Foley from Beverly Hills Cop) personna and actually improves it from ID4.

    I strongly recommed you kill off a Saturday afternoon and see this movie. If you cannot see it in the theater, you won't lose a whole lot by renting it. But, see it nonetheless. The aliens and high-tech toys are interesting. The plot is entertaining and the chemistry between Smith and Jones works. I had a wonderfully silly time watching this film. Make sure to catch the fun interspersed in the ending credits! {JB}
