Michigan at Ohio State College Football Preview 2006
    Sports: Athletic Contests
This is the college football national championship right here. I submit this game as one of the best reasons to never have a college football playoff in Division IA NCAA football. The University of Michigan Wolverines vs The Ohio State University Buckeyes has been big-time since the 1960s.

This game is the biggest rivalry in the Big Ten conference, brought about by Woody Hayes and Bo Schembechler. In the 1970s, there were only the Big Two and the little eight. No one else mattered in the battle to go to Pasadena. The only blot on this rivalry was the fact that the PAC-10 teamed seemed to get the better of them in the Rose Bowl in the 70s and 80s.

The winner of this game appears to be destined to face the USC Trojans in the National Championship BCS game in Glendale Arizona. However, USC is now facing the meat of their schedule with California, Notre Dame at the Coliseum. Then they have to close out with UCLA left to play at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. All bets are off as far as the 8-1 Trojans, currently #3 in the BCS rankings, reaching that title game.Once scenario even has Ohio State and Michigan facing each other a second time, as there will be no one else worthy to play in the national championship game. Ah well BCS, sometimes you are the pigeon, sometimes you are the statue.Author Bob Wood does a great job describing the atmosphere is his book:
Big Ten Country: A Journey Through One Football Season I highly recommend this book for any college football fan. Bob tours all the Big Ten locations and attends a game at each spot in the 1988 season. The Metrodome for University of Minnesota is the only venue that really gets skewered. Although, the weather outside was rainy and the opponent was Miami (Ohio) or Northern Illinois and the Gophers were having another pathetic season.
