UCLA vs USC Preview December 6, 2008

This is the annual Group29 preview of the upcoming UCLA / USC rivalry game to be played at the Rose Bowl Stadium on December 6th 2008. Since the previews started, the USC Trojans have been on a series of top 10 finishes. Without exception, USC has been the predicted winner. Our favorite past prediction had been "The Bruins could not win this game with machetes".
Being that USC has been the conference leader all these years, this game still has a bearing on the conference standings and national bowl picture. Because Oregon State gave up a record amount of points to their in-state rival in what should have been a much closer game, only one PAC-10 team has a chance for a BCS bowl. Had Oregon State held out and gained, USC could have taken an at-large spot in the BCS if they beat UCLA. Now, USC gets either the Rose Bowl, or the Holiday bowl, depending upon whether they win or lose. UCLA gets no bowl in either situation, having already squandered their chances with numerous interceptions run back for touchdowns.
