As chance would have it, he was a Pulitzer Prize winner
    Movie Discussions
The Group29 web site started with a bit of hubris, the premise that anyone could offer an opinion on movies and be a film critic. But the fact is that a true film critic has to be an accomplished writer, art lover, academic, and immerse oneself in the field.

Roger Ebert loved movies more than anyone else I know. He truly loved his job. Even watching bad movies was all part of a work day for him. When a truly great, four-star movie came along, it made for a great day for Roger, and we all could enjoy it along with him.

Some of his best reviews, in my opinion, are reserved for the worst movies. His books, I Hated, Hated, Hated, Hated this Movie, and Your Movie Sucks are two of my favorite works.

His review of Deuce Bigalow : European Gigolo is among my favorite.

Schneider retaliated [to a bad review from Patrick Goldstein of the Los Angeles Times] by attacking Goldstein in full-page ads in Daily Variety and the Hollywood Reporter. In an open letter to Goldstein, Schneider wrote: "Well, Mr. Goldstein, I decided to do some research to find out what awards you have won. I went online and found that you have won nothing. Absolutely nothing. No journalistic awards of any kind ... Maybe you didn't win a Pulitzer Prize because they haven't invented a category for Best Third-Rate, Unfunny Pompous Reporter Who's Never Been Acknowledged by His Peers." …

Schneider is correct, and Patrick Goldstein has not yet won a Pulitzer Prize. Therefore, Goldstein is not qualified to complain that Columbia financed "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo" while passing on the opportunity to participate in "Million Dollar Baby," "Ray," "The Aviator," "Sideways" and "Finding Neverland." As chance would have it, I have won the Pulitzer Prize, and so I am qualified. Speaking in my official capacity as a Pulitzer Prize winner, Mr. Schneider, your movie sucks.

Perhaps the most scathing comment to ever appear in one of Ebert's reviews is attributed to a third party: "This movie", said the lady in front of me at the drinking fountain, "is the worst piece of shit I have ever seen."
