Moorhead, Minn. (AP)
The Moorhead, Minn. Police Department's most recognized squad car goes on the auction block Saturday.
The 1984 blue and white Corvette has been used to promote the "DARE" program, which promotes a drug-free lifestyle for teenagers.
The sheriff says the car being auctioned off might be considered a collectors item because a toy replica was manufactured by Matchbox.
Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist was a Moorhead DARE officer when the department got the first of two Corvettes about 12 years ago. The sports car was seized in a drug bust.
That car eventually was in an accident and was replaced by a similar car.
Bergquist says he took the DARE cars to schools and drove them in parades.
The Moorhead, MN Police Department has pictures of their newer DARE Corvette along with a cropped photo of the existing car.
Here is a Picture Of the Moorhead D.A.R.E. Corvette from Shabbir's Matchbox site.
Also, I believe that it is an even older model, as the Corvette was redesigned for 1983. The Moorhead car appears to be a 3rd generation (C3) 1968-1982 type model.
