Microsoft Virtual CD/Rom Control Panel
Description: It only runs on XP and unofficially Windows 2000. Your CDs have to be converted to ISO files. That is not as hard as it sounds. Programs like Nero can do it, but there is another free tool for XP that will let you create ISO files in a flash. For more information see http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com or Undisker too. Most types of copy protected CDs cannot be used by the emulator. Note, this no longer seems to be available from Microsoft, but a number of other mirrors have sprung up.

Description: mp3DirectCut from Martin Pesch is a fast and extensive audio editor and recorder for MP3. You can directly cut, copy, paste or change the volume with no need to decompress your files for audio editing. This saves encoding time and preserves the original quality, because nothing will be re-encoded. The built in recorder creates MP3 "on the fly" from an audio input. Using Cue sheets, pause detection or Auto cue you can easily divide long files. This program is basically a 51K exe with a 2K config file. Language files take another 10K apiece.
