The Control Panel Add or Remove Programs applet stores its data in the registry. In fact, you can find this information at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall.
Here is a very useful tip on WMI that looks at the very key to run an inventory on your PC. As a bonus, It shows you how to compile a MOF file that enumerates a class.
